2000 First line-up of the band was born thanks to a casual encounter between Claudio Rampinini (guitars) and Francesco Notarangelo (drums), as they both meet to play some hardcore/punk tunes and have a little jam session. A few weeks later Marco Re (bass) and Luciano Crudo (vocals) enter the band. 2001 Luciano leaves the band, Claudio begins to play and sing for a little while until Paolo (vocals) is recruited. The growler Paolo Casati opens up a new dimension to the band's sound. The band are joined Roberto Ringoli (rhythm guitar) and start to write some tracks that will be played in a small north Italian tour. In the same year the band names itself "Kernel" thanks to band's friend Mauro, Claudio designs the first logo characterised by a rounded "K" 2002 In June 2002 the first demo "Demo2002" is released, and in spite of its simple sound, this demo receives positive reviews. the band start a small tour until they part ways with Francesco in September. 2003 The band stop playing for one year, then in November 2003 Claudio finds Davide Sponchia, a powerful drummer from Venice. The music sessions with Davide will change the sound of Kernel, bringing a more aggressive sound into the band. 2004 The adventures with Davide go on until March 2004, when he decides to start another music project. The band call back Francesco to carry out the gigs scheduled and later decide officially start anew with him. 2005 The first official Promo CD, "Escape Or Kill" Is released. In April Roberto leaves, and the band is left with a single guitar player. The band sign with On Dead Sound, a small promotion agency that provides support for some live shows. in Spring the band hit the road on a mini tour in the center/south of Italy, playing in some Italian underground metal festivals (Thrash till Death, Extreme HC Mad, Metal Disorder, Shades Of Extreme, On Underground Sound). 2006 In 2006 some important changes take place for Kernel, the band change its tuning and Paolo's growling becomes more aggressive. In July the band release the third promo but decide not to promote it. Some Italian undergound metal bands perform Kernel songs on stage, covering tunes like "Escape Of Elf", "Scappa" and "Falsi Liberi", a tribute that the band took as a great compliment. In September, founder Claudio leaves the band and moves to England to participate in the thrash metal project "Denial". Soon thereafter, Kernel splits up. 2007 Relocated now in London, Claudio hangs out with guitarists Federica Gialanzè (Centurion's Ghost, Denial, Furnaze) and Achilles "Thanatos" Hilmi (Abgott, Reign Of Swords, Aimoptysi), thanks to whom he finds the inspiration to complete all the songs that were left hanging. 2008 The band is reassembled, with Daniel Martini behind the drums, Paolo at the bass guitar and Ivan Ciavarella on vocals (who in the past had occasionally filled in for rhythm guitar). At present, the band is working on the songs that will take their final form during the recording of the first full-length album, "Servant Of God" |
